In a year marked by adversity and hardship for trans individuals, LGBTQ+ youth organization Think2Speak has launched a heartwarming Secret Santa campaign to bring joy and support to trans youth across the UK this Christmas. The initiative, called Trans Secret Santa UK, aims to remind transgender young people how loved they are during the holiday season.
The campaign was created in collaboration with trans campaigner Jude Guaitamacchi, trans artist Mister Samo, and their patron Octavian Starr. Recognizing the challenges faced by trans individuals, especially those from Black and Brown communities, Think2Speak was determined to rally communities and show these resilient youth that they are cherished, valued, and part of a global family that champions their success.
According to Think2Speak, 78 percent of trans youth experience bullying at school, while only six percent feel supported. The need for solidarity and support is urgent, especially in a year that has seen heavy and disheartening media coverage, devastating attacks by the government, and a concerning rise in transphobic abuse. Trans Secret Santa UK seeks to address this need and spread joy to trans youth who often feel isolated and marginalized.
Through this festive campaign, Think2Speak and Jude Guaitamacchi aim to offer trans youth a ray of hope. They want to remind them that they are loved more than they know and that they have a family of people around the world who care about them and want them to succeed. To make this happen, Trans Secret Santa UK is raising money to fund secret gift bundles that will be posted out to trans young people across the country.
The initiative is inspired by the original Trans Secret Santa movement, which began in the United States. However, due to limitations this year, Think2Speak has taken it upon themselves to ensure that trans individuals in the UK experience the love and joy they deserve this Christmas. The organization is calling on people from all walks of life to become “Santas” and spread hope by participating in this celebration of trans resilience and magic.
Guaitamacchi, an activist and campaigner, emphasizes the importance of spreading positivity to counteract the negativity that surrounds trans youth. “This Christmas, I just want young trans people to have a moment of joy,” Guaitamacchi said. Having witnessed the impact of giving trans youth hope during a residential program with Think2Speak, they realized the significance of such positivity.
To contribute to spreading joy, love, and a sense of belonging to young trans individuals who may feel isolated or marginalized, Think2Speak urges individuals, organizations, and communities to consider supporting the cause. By joining this movement, they can help create a network of unwavering support and solidarity that transcends geographical boundaries.
All Trans Secret Santa requests must be made before December 17th. Think2Speak encourages everyone to donate to the Trans Secret Santa UK campaign, as the more money raised, the more gift parcels can be delivered to trans youth across the country.
In a year where trans individuals have faced tremendous challenges, Trans Secret Santa UK offers a glimmer of hope and reminds them that they are not alone. This campaign serves as a powerful message of love, support, and inclusivity for trans youth across the UK during the holiday season.
