In a groundbreaking move, the Mayor of San Francisco, California, Mayor London Breed, has appointed Honey Mahogany, a former contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race, as the head of the city’s Trans Initiatives Office. Honey Mahogany’s journey to this role began in 2020 when she became the first Black trans person to win an elected post in the state of California. Her candidacy for the chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party was a testament to her dedication to serving her community and advocating for justice and equity. Now, as the Director of the Office of Transgender Initiatives, Mahogany brings over two decades of experience as a community activist and social worker to her new role.

In her new role, Mahogany is excited to lead an extraordinary team of trans staff at the Office of Transgender Initiatives.
