You’re not the only one with a secret crush on Regina George. Reneé Rapp saw an opportunity to shoot her shot with the one and only Rachel McAdams and she took it.
Reneé Rapp, the 24-year-old actress who is currently in the midst of an iconic press tour for the Mean Girls remake, has been delighting fans with her no-filter interviews and off-the-cuff call-outs. From ruthlessly calling out comedian Jo Koy for his jokes about women at the Golden Globes to proudly defending Megan Thee Stallion and threatening anyone who crosses her, Rapp has been keeping things interesting – and people are loving her brutal honesty.
The latest chapter in Rapp’s saga unfolded on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where she made a proposal to McAdams, who famously portrayed the original Regina George in the 2004 Mean Girls film. When Colbert asked Rapp if she had seen the original movie, she responded with a confident “Of course!” The Late Show host then asked if she had any notes for McAdams, to which Rapp replied, “Date me?” The studio audience erupted in applause, and Colbert joked that McAdams might be watching.
While it would certainly be cool to see Regina George dating Regina George, the chances of that happening are fairly slim. McAdams has been in a relationship with screenwriter Jamie Linden since 2016, and they have two children together. However, that doesn’t stop McAdams from singing Rapp’s praises. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, McAdams said, “I don’t think she can do any wrong. She is amazing… I hope she has a great time with it. I can’t wait to see it.”
Rapp couldn’t contain her excitement when she heard McAdams’ kind words. She gushed, “She’s so cool. She’s so sick. I love her. I’m obsessed with her.” Rapp has been taking every opportunity to shower McAdams with adoration during the Mean Girls press tour, though she acknowledges that she’s putting her own spin on the iconic Regina George character. In an interview with People, Rapp explained, “She just is so classy, which I actually find is probably the biggest difference between the two of us. I feel very relaxed and say whatever comes to mind.”
Mean Girls, the highly-anticipated remake starring Rapp as Regina George, is currently in theaters in the United States and will be released in the UK on January 19th.
It’s clear that Rapp’s crush on McAdams is both adorable and relatable. Who hasn’t had a celebrity crush at some point? Rapp’s boldness in shooting her shot with McAdams is inspiring, and it shows that even famous actors can have their own starstruck moments. While McAdams may not be able to fulfill Rapp’s request for a date, their mutual admiration and support for each other’s work is evident. Fans of Mean Girls, both old and new, are eagerly awaiting Rapp’s portrayal of Regina George, and it’s safe to say that she has already won over the hearts of many with her infectious personality and genuine love for her craft.
In a world where celebrities often seem untouchable and unapproachable, Rapp’s crush on McAdams reminds us that they are just human beings like the rest of us. It’s refreshing to see someone in the spotlight who isn’t afraid to be vulnerable and express their genuine emotions. Rapp’s openness and authenticity are a breath of fresh air in an industry that often values image over substance.
As Mean Girls continues to captivate audiences with its timeless humor and relatable high school drama, Reneé Rapp’s portrayal of Regina George is sure to leave a lasting impression. And who knows, maybe one day she’ll get that date with Rachel McAdams after all.
