Professional women’s basketball player Brittney Griner and her lawyer wife Cherelle Griner recently shared the happy news that they are expecting their first child together. The couple used Instagram to announce their pregnancy, posting a heartfelt photo showing an ultrasound image and their matching cross tattoos while holding hands.
In their post, the couple expressed their disbelief that they will soon meet their “favorite human being,” hinting that the baby is due in July of 2024. This was confirmed with the hashtag #July2024. Brittney Griner also has twin daughters from a previous marriage.
As soon as the announcement was made, fans and celebrities alike congratulated the couple, including Kehlani and Joy Reid. This pregnancy marks a new chapter for Brittney Griner after facing difficulties in 2022 when she was detained in Russia for almost a year. She was arrested at an airport for having marijuana in her luggage, which she claimed was unintentional. Despite pleading guilty and explaining that the substance was for managing chronic pain, Griner was sentenced to nine years in prison. However, with the help of the Biden administration, she was eventually released in a prisoner swap. Cherelle Griner described this time as one of the lowest points in her life, but she was grateful to President Biden and his administration for securing her wife’s release.
Despite this setback, Brittney Griner remains a talented player and is getting ready for her 11th season in the WNBA, where she is a nine-time All-Star. She is also eagerly anticipating her new role as a mother. The news of her pregnancy has brought joy to fans and supporters who have followed her journey on and off the court. As she continues to inspire others with her determination and dedication, Griner is now embarking on an exciting new journey as a soon-to-be mom.
