Nicholas Galitzine has recently addressed the swirling rumors surrounding his new romantic comedy film with Anne Hathaway, “The Idea of You,” which has sparked comparisons to Harry Styles fan fiction. The British actor, known for his roles in “Red, White & Royal Blue” and “Mary & George,” takes on the role of Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of the boyband August Moon in the Prime Video original.
In the film, Hathaway plays Solène Marchand, a middle-aged mother who crosses paths with Hayes at Coachella. Sparks fly between the two characters, leading to a budding romance that captivates audiences. The trailer for the movie has ignited a frenzy online, with many drawing parallels between Hayes and former One Direction member Harry Styles.
Galitzine, in response to these comparisons, acknowledged the similarities between Hayes and Styles but emphasized that Hayes is not a mere imitation of the pop star. The actor explained that they aimed to create a character inspired by Styles’ relationship dynamics without replicating his persona directly. While Styles is currently in a relationship with someone younger, Hayes’ romance with an older woman in the film mirrors aspects of Styles’ dating history.
The film’s creators, director Michael Showalter and writer Jennifer Westfeldt, seem to have embraced the connection to Styles, evident in the choice of music for the movie. The track “Dance Before We Walk” by August Moon, featured in the trailer, was written and produced by the same duo behind One Direction’s hit song “That’s What Makes You Beautiful.”
Author Robinne Lee, whose novel inspired the film, has also hinted at Styles’ influence on the story. While the book was not initially intended to be about Styles, Lee noted similarities between Hayes and Styles during her research. She revealed that Hayes is a blend of her ideal men, including Styles, Prince Harry, and Eddie Redmayne.
The trailer teases a whirlwind romance between Solène and Hayes, filled with private jets, private beaches, and romantic escapades. However, their love story faces scrutiny from the media, labeling Solène as a “cougar” for dating a younger man. As their relationship unfolds amidst public attention, the central question remains whether their love can withstand societal judgment.
“The Idea of You” also features a talented cast including Ella Rubin, Reid Scott, Annie Mumolo, and Perry Mattfeld. The film is set to premiere on Prime Video on 2 May, promising a delightful romantic comedy experience for viewers.
In conclusion, “The Idea of You” offers a fresh take on age-gap romance with a charismatic cast and a storyline that explores love in the face of societal expectations. While drawing inspiration from real-life dynamics, the film navigates themes of love, acceptance, and self-discovery in a heartwarming and entertaining manner. With its release just around the corner, audiences can look forward to a charming and captivating cinematic experience.
