A new LGBTQ+ cocktail lounge and show bar has recently opened its doors in Glasgow, Scotland, aiming to become an integral part of the city’s queer community. The Corset Club, located on Virginia Street, is the brainchild of Callum Raymond Young, a seasoned hospitality professional with a decade of experience in the industry.
The venue, which opened at the end of last month, is housed in a building recognizable by locals as the former site of a corset wholesaler. Inspired by its history, The Corset Club offers a range of cocktails and drinks inspired by films and queer culture, as well as entertainment such as cabaret, drag, and comedy performances. In addition, plans are in place to introduce afternoon teas to the menu.
Young emphasized the importance of creating a relaxed, vibrant, and inclusive space at The Corset Club. He expressed his desire to contribute to Glasgow’s LGBTQ+ scene, which he described as amazing, stating that he has always wanted to be part of the city’s queer tapestry. With neighboring venues like Delmonicas, The Riding Room, and the Polo Lounge already established in the area, Young hopes that The Corset Club will add to the diversity of options available to patrons.
Since its opening, The Corset Club has received positive feedback from the community, with many expressing their approval of the new addition to Glasgow’s nightlife scene. Young noted that the venue’s early showtimes, running from 7pm to 9pm, set it apart from other nearby establishments that typically start their shows later in the evening. This scheduling choice was made with the intention of fostering a thriving evening trade in the area.
In addition to its entertainment offerings, The Corset Club has been designed with accessibility in mind. The venue features large-format menus, light-sensitive glasses, and accessible toilets to ensure that all patrons feel welcome and comfortable during their visit. Young highlighted the importance of creating a space where individuals, especially young people exploring their sexuality, can feel accepted and embraced for who they are.
The performance schedule at The Corset Club includes stand-up comedy nights featuring LGBTQ+ women and people of color performers, drag shows, cabaret performances, live vocals, jazz, power ballads, and 90s dance classics. With a diverse lineup of talent and entertainment options, The Corset Club aims to cater to a wide range of tastes and preferences within the LGBTQ+ community.
Located at 53 Virginia Street in Merchant City, The Corset Club is poised to become a staple in Glasgow’s queer nightlife scene. By offering a welcoming and inclusive environment, along with a variety of entertainment choices, the venue is well-positioned to become a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike seeking a vibrant and accepting space to socialize and unwind.
