Queen of Pop Madonna has recently shared more details about her harrowing experience following a near-death encounter last June. The iconic singer, known for hits like “Vogue” and “Don’t Tell Me,” opened up about her health scare during the first night of her Celebration Tour in Los Angeles.
Madonna recounted how she was hospitalized with a serious bacterial infection in June after being found unresponsive in her New York City apartment. The incident led to her being placed in an induced coma, a situation she described as “pretty scary.” As a result of her health scare, the start of her Celebration Tour was delayed from July to October.
During her performance in LA, Madonna expressed her vulnerability during the ordeal, highlighting the lack of control she felt while in the induced coma. She humorously mentioned her history of injuries, including a titanium hip, but emphasized that nothing could stop her from continuing with her music career.
The singer also shared insights into her waking moments after coming out of the coma, revealing that the first word she uttered was a resounding “No.” She reflected on what she believed was a conversation with God, where she adamantly refused any invitation to leave this world.
Madonna took a moment to acknowledge the medical professionals who aided in her recovery, particularly Dr. David Agus. She humorously admitted to bombarding the doctor with questions about when she would regain her energy and be able to resume her tour.
The pop legend also revealed that her initial thoughts upon waking up were of her late mother and her children, whom she feared leaving behind. Despite the frightening experience, Madonna made a full recovery and kicked off her Celebration Tour in London in October.
The Celebration Tour has been lauded as a tribute to Madonna’s LGBTQ+ fans, featuring nods to ballroom culture and a segment dedicated to those lost during the AIDS crisis. The show has seen its fair share of memorable moments, from Madonna’s expert recovery after falling off a chair on stage to addressing legal disputes with concert-goers attempting to sue her for tardiness.
Throughout the tour, Madonna has welcomed various celebrities to join her on stage, including rapper Tokischa, model Julia Fox, TV host Andy Cohen, and Drag Race stars Trinity The Tuck, Miz Cracker, Symone, and more. These appearances have added to the excitement and allure of Madonna’s performances, solidifying her status as a legendary entertainer.
As Madonna continues to captivate audiences with her music and stage presence, fans eagerly anticipate what surprises she has in store for the remaining stops on her Celebration Tour. With her resilience and unwavering spirit, Madonna proves that nothing can hinder her artistic journey.
