The White Lotus actor Lukas Gage recently opened up about his experience filming the highly anticipated sequel to the horror film Smile. Gage, who is playing an undisclosed role in Smile 2, revealed that the filming process left him feeling “sick to his stomach” due to the graphic and disturbing nature of the movie.
During an interview on Sirius XM’s The Jess Cagle Show while promoting his current film Road House, Gage described Smile 2 as “so terrifying” and admitted that it was the first time he had ever been genuinely afraid on set. He went on to explain that he actually felt ill and vomited off-camera during one particularly gruesome scene.
In a later conversation with The Hollywood Reporter at the US premiere of Road House, Gage clarified that he actually dry-heaved rather than vomited, but attributed his reaction to being a self-proclaimed “wimp” when it comes to horror movies. He expressed surprise at how intense the filming process was, noting that the entire crew was terrified by the content of the movie.
Smile, the original film, followed the story of therapist Rose Cotter (played by Sosie Bacon) who encounters a woman named Laura (Caitlin Stasey) plagued by demonic premonitions. As Rose begins to experience the same haunting visions as Laura, the suspense and terror escalate throughout the film.
Teasing what fans can expect from Smile 2, Gage expressed his pride in the project and praised director Parker Finn for taking the horror elements to the next level. He also hinted at some exciting cameo appearances in the upcoming sequel.
Aside from his work on Smile and Road House, Lukas Gage has been navigating rumors about his personal life. The openly LGBTQ actor was recently linked to Saltburn star Archie Madekwe after jokingly referring to him as his “husband,” but he clarified that they are just friends. Meanwhile, Gage’s ex-husband Chris Appleton has reportedly moved on and is now dating art dealer Federico Debernardi following their divorce last year.
Overall, Lukas Gage’s candid revelations about his experience filming Smile 2 offer a glimpse into the intense and thrilling nature of the upcoming horror sequel. Fans can look forward to being on the edge of their seats as they witness the chilling story unfold on screen.
