London Trans+ Pride is set to make a return in 2024, with the annual march advocating for “justice and liberation” for all members of the transgender community. Thousands of individuals participated in the event in 2023, and a graphic shared on the organization’s Instagram account has confirmed the date and time for this year’s protest.
The graphic displayed on the Instagram account of London Trans+ Pride reads, “None of us are free until all of us are free,” above the organization’s logo. It continues with the phrases “Justice and liberation,” along with instructions to “Wear masks” and “Bring signs.” The date and time for the 2024 London Trans+ Pride march have been confirmed as 1pm BST on Saturday, July 27, with participants advised to meet at Trafalgar Square in central London.
While the route for the march has not yet been finalized, last year’s march followed a path from Trafalgar Square to Hyde Park Corner Tube station. In a previous social media post by the organization, a call for stewards encouraged applicants to “set the tone for the march by being a visible and calm presence.”
The 2023 London Trans+ Pride event featured speeches from notable figures such as writer and performance artist Travis Alabanza, model and activist Munroe Bergdorf, actor, model, and artist June Lam, as well as representatives from Transgender Action Block and Trans Workers Solidarity Network. The event marked its fifth anniversary amidst a backdrop of increasing anti-trans hostility, including the tragic murder of British trans teenager Brianna Ghey.
This year has seen a resurgence in public discourse surrounding transgender individuals, with author J.K. Rowling reigniting controversy with some of the stars from the Harry Potter films over her views on trans rights. Additionally, the Cass report, an independent review into healthcare provision for trans youth in England, has raised concerns about the future of trans healthcare.
Internationally, 2024 has been marred by the deaths of trans individuals such as Meraxes Medina in Los Angeles and teenager Nex Benedict, who tragically took his own life in Ohio. Despite these challenges, London Trans+ Pride remains a vital platform for advocating for the rights and dignity of all transgender individuals.
The upcoming march aims to amplify the voices of the transgender community and call for tangible progress towards justice and liberation for all. As preparations continue for the event, organizers are working diligently to ensure a safe and inclusive space for participants to express their solidarity and demand equality.
In a world where transgender individuals continue to face discrimination and violence, events like London Trans+ Pride serve as crucial reminders of the ongoing struggle for equality and acceptance. As the date approaches, supporters are urged to stand in solidarity with the transgender community and join the march for justice and liberation.
