The highly anticipated 2024 Eurovision Song Contest, also known as gay Christmas, is just around the corner, set to take place in Malmö, Sweden. With 37 countries vying for the title and the privilege of hosting the next Eurovision, the competition is fierce. Among the talented artists representing their respective countries, there are 8 out and proud members of the LGBTQ+ community, adding an extra layer of diversity and representation to the event.
First up is Bambie Thug from Ireland, a non-binary artist making history by being the first non-binary representative for Ireland at Eurovision. Their song “Doomsday Blue” from the EP Cathexis promises to captivate audiences with its unique sound and powerful message.
Next, we have Electric Fields from Australia, an electro-pop duo incorporating Yankunytjatjara, an Aboriginal language, into their song “One Mikali (One Blood”. Michael Ross and Zaachariaha Fielding, both queer artists, bring a fresh perspective to the competition with their innovative approach to music.
Representing San Marino is Kenzy Loevett, lead vocalist of the band Megara, with their genre-blending song “11:11”. Kenzy, a lesbian, adds a personal touch to their performance, infusing elements of rock, metal, dance, and electronica into their music.
Mustii from Belgium is no stranger to the music scene, having released two studio albums and even served as a judge on Drag Race Belgique. Their entry “Before the Party’s Over” showcases Mustii’s queer identity and their preference to avoid labels, choosing instead to focus on appreciating individuals for who they are.
Swiss singer Nemo brings a powerful message of self-discovery and empowerment with their song “The Code”, reflecting on their journey as a non-binary individual. Nemo’s candid lyrics resonate with audiences, highlighting the importance of authenticity and self-acceptance.
Olly Alexander from the United Kingdom, known for his work with the band Years and Years and his acting in It’s A Sin, is set to dazzle viewers with his song “Dizzy”. As a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, Olly’s presence at Eurovision adds a touch of activism and representation to the event.
Saba from Denmark, a multi-talented performer known for her versatility in singing, acting, and modeling, brings her unique style to Eurovision with the song “Sand”. As an LGBTQ+ artist, Saba is proud to represent Denmark and celebrate her identity on a global stage.
Finally, Silvester Belt from Lithuania showcases his electro-pop sound with the song “Luktelk”, drawing inspiration from LGBTQ+ icon Troye Sivan. Silvester’s openness about his bisexuality adds depth and authenticity to his performance, connecting with audiences on a personal level.
With such a diverse lineup of LGBTQ+ artists at Eurovision 2024, the stage is set for a celebration of inclusion, representation, and acceptance. These talented individuals bring their unique perspectives and experiences to the forefront, enriching the music landscape with their creativity and authenticity.
