Jonathan Bailey, known for his roles in “Bridgerton” and “Wicked,” recently confessed that he may not have been the best trailer partner to Matt Bomer while filming their latest project, “Fellow Travelers.” Bailey revealed that he had a hectic filming schedule, working on three projects simultaneously in different locations.
The actor shared in a recent interview with People that he filmed “Fellow Travelers” in Toronto while also shooting for “Bridgerton” in London and rehearsing for “Wicked” with co-star Ariana Grande. Balancing the demands of all three projects proved to be quite challenging for Bailey.
He explained that there were times when he had to rehearse dance numbers for “Wicked” while on set for “Fellow Travelers.” Bailey mentioned that he shared a two-way trailer with Bomer, and his dance rehearsals would often disturb his co-star.
Bailey said, “Poor Matt [Bomer]. We shared a two-way trailer, so whenever I was dancing, I think I was rocking him either awake or to sleep.”
In “Fellow Travelers,” Bailey and Bomer portray forbidden lovers whose romance spans several decades, from the 1950s to the AIDS crisis of the 1980s. The film, available to stream on Paramount+ with Showtime, has received positive reviews for its emotional storytelling and portrayal of queer experiences in 20th century America.
While juggling multiple projects, Bailey is also set to return as Anthony Bridgerton in the third season of the hit Netflix series “Bridgerton.” The actor rose to fame with his role in the show’s second season opposite Simone Ashley’s Kate Sharma. Season three will focus on Anthony’s brother Colin and his love interest Penelope Featherington, but Anthony and Kate will still play significant roles as a newly-wedded couple.
Bailey’s eventful year doesn’t end there. He will also star in the highly-anticipated movie musical, “Wicked: Part One,” alongside Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Bailey plays the love interest Fiyero in the film, which is set to hit theaters on November 27, 2024. The cast also includes Michelle Yeoh, Bowen Yang, Ethan Slater, Keala Settle, and Jeff Goldblum.
Bailey expressed his excitement for the film, stating that everyone in the cast is “completely bonded for life” and describing them as “theatre nerds.” Although he couldn’t reveal much about the project, he promised that it would “blow people’s minds” and urged fans to prepare for its release.
“Wicked: Part One” is expected to be followed by “Wicked: Part Two” on November 26, 2025.
Jonathan Bailey’s dedication to his craft is evident in his ability to take on multiple projects simultaneously. While his busy schedule may have impacted his co-star Matt Bomer during the filming of “Fellow Travelers,” fans can look forward to seeing Bailey shine in both “Bridgerton” and “Wicked” in the coming years.
