Jodie Foster, the Hollywood legend known for iconic films such as Silence of the Lambs and Taxi Driver, was honoured in a ceremony outside the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. The event took place on the 10th anniversary of her marriage to her wife, The L Word star Alexandra Hedison.
The 61-year-old Oscar winner had her handprints and footprints immortalised at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, also known as Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. This ceremony comes after Foster received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2016.
The date of the Chinese Theatre event held special significance as it marked the 10th anniversary of Foster’s marriage to Hedison. Before leaving her mark in wet cement, Foster delivered a heartfelt speech, introduced by longtime friend Jamie Lee Curtis.
“The person that I have to thank the most, really, is my wife, Alex, who I cannot believe was so generous to give up our 10-year anniversary day to come and do this with me,” Foster expressed. “I love you so much and I’m so grateful for the life we have together.”
Foster continued, “I love my life and I’m so grateful that all of you guys think I’m OK,” as she smiled at Hedison standing in the front row of spectators.
After being notoriously private about her personal life, Foster confirmed her queerness at the Golden Globes Awards in 2013. She mentioned that she had already come out “a thousand years ago” back in the Stone Age. Foster emphasized the value of privacy, having spent decades under intense scrutiny in the spotlight.
Foster had previously acknowledged her 14-year relationship with producer Cydney Bernard in a speech at The Hollywood Reporter’s ‘Women in Entertainment’ event in 2007. Bernard was referred to as her “heroic co-parent” and “ex-partner in love but righteous soul sister in life.”
Foster and Bernard share two children, Charles “Charlie” Bernard Foster, born in 1998, and Christopher “Kit” Bernard, born in 2001. Despite their separation, Foster has raised their sons with Bernard away from the public eye.
In 2014, Foster tied the knot with Hedison after a year of dating in a private ceremony. Hedison, aged 54, is a renowned photographer whose work has been featured in galleries and museums worldwide. She is also recognized for her roles in The L Word and films such as Prey and Any Day Now.
The couple’s love story continues to thrive, showcasing their strong lesbian energy. Foster’s Golden Globe win for Best Supporting Actress was followed by a celebratory kiss with her wife wearing matching silk pyjamas.
The handprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre was a testament to Foster’s enduring legacy in Hollywood and her profound love for her wife, Alexandra Hedison. The event marked a milestone in their journey together, celebrating their enduring bond and shared life.
