In a world where the boundaries between reality and fiction blur, one iconic figure from RuPaul’s Drag Race is stepping into the fantastical realm of Doctor Who as the ultimate villain. Jinkx Monsoon, a double winner of the hit drag competition show, is set to bring her signature campiness to the Whoniverse in the upcoming debut season of the beloved sci-fi series.
Fans were given a tantalizing glimpse of Jinkx’s villainous character in the explosive new trailer released on March 31st. Rising from behind a piano in her musical-themed villainess attire, complete with her classic ginger wig, Jinkx delivers a menacing taunt that sends shivers down the spine: “You called?”
While Jinkx’s exact role in the new season remains shrouded in mystery, speculations are rife that she may be taking on the notorious character of “The Master” or “The Mistress.” The trailer also showcases other familiar faces, including Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor and Yasmin Finney as Rose Noble, promising an action-packed season filled with twists and turns.
Ncuti Gatwa, the first openly queer actor to play The Doctor, exudes style and charisma in his portrayal of the time-travelling hero. Joined by new companion Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson, The Doctor embarks on a series of adventures that span across time and space in a bid to save the world from impending threats.
The new season, aptly titled “season one,” marks a fresh era for Doctor Who under the helm of queer TV legend Russell T Davies. Following Jodie Whittaker’s departure as the 13th Doctor, fans can expect a reinvigorated take on the beloved series with a mix of old and new elements that promise to captivate audiences.
In addition to the thrilling trailer, fans were treated to the revelation of episode titles for season one. Episodes like “Space Babies” and “The Devil’s Chord” hint at the eclectic mix of themes and storylines that await viewers. The premiere episodes are scheduled to air on May 11th, with subsequent episodes airing every Saturday until late June.
