Hunter Schafer, the rising star known for her role on the hit show Euphoria, recently made headlines when she confirmed that she had dated Spanish pop star Rosalía for several months. The revelation came during an interview with GQ, where Schafer opened up about their relationship and the bond they still share.
According to Schafer, the pair were romantically involved in 2019 for about five months. She admitted that there had been a lot of speculation about their relationship, which made her unsure whether or not to confirm the rumors. Schafer candidly shared, “Part of us just wants to get it over with, and then another part is like: ‘It’s none of anybody’s business.’” However, she now feels comfortable sharing their past relationship, stating, “it’s something I’m happy to share and I think she feels that way too.”
Despite no longer being romantically involved, Schafer emphasized that she still has a “beautiful friendship” with Rosalía. The Catalan singer-songwriter, known for her collaborations with artists like Billie Eilish and Bad Bunny, remains an important part of Schafer’s life. She referred to Rosalía as “family, no matter what,” highlighting the deep connection they formed during their time together.
In addition to discussing her past relationship with Rosalía, Schafer also touched on the responsibility she feels as a trans actress portraying a young trans character on Euphoria. While she acknowledges the importance of representation, Schafer expressed her desire not to have her identity overshadow her career. She explained, “I worked so hard to get to where I am, past these really hard points in my transition, and now I just want to be a girl and finally move on.”
Schafer went on to address the pressure she feels to be a spokesperson for the trans community, acknowledging that she is currently one of the most prominent trans figures in the media. Despite this, she believes that focusing on her work and achievements, rather than constantly discussing her identity, will ultimately be more beneficial for the movement. She stated, “I think getting further and doing awesome s**t, in the interest of ‘the movement,’ will be way more helpful than talking about it all the time.”
Fans of Schafer can look forward to seeing her in the upcoming film Kinds of Kindness, where she will star alongside Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe. The project, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, is sure to showcase Schafer’s talent and further solidify her status as a rising star in Hollywood.
As Schafer continues to navigate fame and success in the entertainment industry, her openness about her past relationship with Rosalía and her thoughts on representation serve as a reminder of the importance of authenticity and staying true to oneself. With a promising future ahead, Schafer is poised to make a lasting impact both on and off the screen.
