The Broadway adaptation of “Romeo and Juliet” is scheduled to begin this autumn and will feature music from Jack Antonoff, a frequent collaborator with artists like Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey. The production will be directed by Sam Gold, known for his work on “Fun Home.”
Connor teased his involvement in the project by posting a cryptic “R” on his Instagram profile, sparking speculation among fans. Connor’s previous stage experience includes performances in London productions of “Welcome Home, Captain Fox!” and “Fanny and Alexander.” His upcoming role in “Romeo and Juliet” marks a significant step in his career, as he transitions from screen to stage.
The casting of Zegler and Connor in the lead roles has generated widespread excitement among fans, who eagerly anticipate their performances as the star-crossed lovers. The production is set to open in London on May 11 and run for 12 weeks, with tickets for the Broadway show going on sale in May.
In light of recent casting controversies, including racist and misogynistic abuse directed at actors like Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, the industry faces ongoing challenges in promoting diversity and inclusion. However, the casting of Zegler and Connor in “Romeo and Juliet” represents a positive step towards more inclusive representation on stage.
Overall, the announcement of Kit Connor’s role in Broadway’s “Romeo and Juliet” alongside Rachel Zegler has sparked excitement and anticipation among fans, highlighting the enduring appeal of Shakespeare’s classic tale of love and tragedy.
