In the heart of Walt Disney World, a family-of-four recently found themselves at the center of a controversy that has sparked heated debates across social media platforms. The incident took place at the Story Book restaurant, located at Artist Point in Florida, where performers dressed as characters from “Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs” entertain guests during their meals.
The father of the family reportedly expressed his discomfort to a waiter at the restaurant, claiming that a performer, who was portraying the character of the Evil Queen, was “a man dressed in drag.” According to the father, they had high hopes for meeting the Evil Queen but were taken aback when they perceived the performer to have a “man’s voice.”
Feeling disrespected and citing his conservative Christian values, the father voiced his concerns to the waiter and later escalated the issue to the manager. He emphasized the amount of money he had spent on this trip and previous visits to Disney parks, stating that the situation did not align with his family’s values.
During the conversation with the manager, the father pressed for information regarding the performer’s gender identity, asking if the Evil Queen was a “biological male.” The manager allegedly refused to provide a direct answer, leading to further frustration on the part of the customer. The father felt that he was being gaslighted and dismissed by Disney’s handling of the situation.
While the gender identity of the performer has not been officially confirmed, social media users quickly weighed in on the incident. Some criticized the family’s reaction, questioning the necessity of being upset over an actor playing a role they were hired for. Others sarcastically remarked on the irony of being outraged by a Disney villain portrayed by a drag performer, citing previous instances where gender presentation had sparked controversy at Disney parks.
This incident is not the first time gender presentation has stirred debate at Disney venues. In 2023, a beloved employee known as “Nick the fairy godmother” faced backlash for their gender presentation while welcoming children at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in Disneyland California. Despite the criticism, many visitors praised Nick for their role and expressed admiration for their performances at the park.
As discussions around gender identity and representation continue to evolve, incidents like these serve as reminders of the diverse perspectives and beliefs held by individuals within society. While some may find comfort in traditional values, others advocate for inclusivity and acceptance of all identities.
PinkNews has reached out to Disney for comment on the matter, but as of now, the family’s encounter with the “male” Evil Queen remains a topic of debate and reflection within the Disney community.
