Four teens charged after 18-year-old trans woman stabbed in London

Four teenagers have been charged over an alleged transphobic attack in which an 18-year-old transgender woman was stabbed at a roller-skating party in Wealdstone, north west London. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was attending the party with friends at the Harrow Leisure Centre on the evening of 10 February when the attack occurred. According to reports, she was stabbed 14 times after being subjected to transphobic slurs.
The victim was rushed to the hospital following the attack and was later discharged after receiving medical treatment for her injuries. The incident sparked outrage and concern within the LGBTQ+ community and prompted a swift response from law enforcement authorities.
Summer Betts-Ramsey, 19, was arrested the day after the incident and has been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon, as confirmed by the Metropolitan Police. Additionally, a 16-year-old girl has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, robbery, and possession of cannabis. Both individuals are scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 12 March for further legal proceedings.
In connection with the attack, two 17-year-old boys were also arrested. One of the boys has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, disclosing sexual images, and threatening the victim with a knife in a private place. The other boy is facing a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent. Both teenagers are set to appear at the Old Bailey on 5 April to address the charges brought against them.
During an earlier court hearing, prosecutor Bunsri Bhuwa emphasized that the attack is being prosecuted as a transphobic hate crime due to the victim’s affiliation with the transgender community. The seriousness of the charges underscores the gravity of the incident and highlights the need for justice to be served in cases of hate-motivated violence.
