Jinkx Monsoon, the only two-time winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race and a rising star in the entertainment industry, recently announced a significant change in her personal life. The 36-year-old drag performer and Broadway actress revealed on Twitter that she has adopted a new chosen name, Hera Hoffer, as she continues her gender journey. Despite this change, she reassured her fans that she will always be publicly known as Jinkx Monsoon.
The name Hera, inspired by an Ancient Greek goddess, holds special significance for Jinkx. In addition to adopting it as her chosen name, she also launched a new perfume under the same moniker, described as “bewitching” by the artist herself.
This revelation comes on the heels of Jinkx’s recent announcement that she underwent Facial Feminisation Surgery (FFS), a procedure commonly pursued by trans and non-binary individuals to alter facial features for a more feminine appearance. Sharing her journey with fans online, Jinkx expressed gratitude for the support she received from her community.
In a heartfelt social media post, Jinkx reflected on the transformative experience of undergoing FFS and how it has shaped her understanding of identity. As a trans feminine non-binary person, she disclosed that she had previously imposed restrictions on how she presented herself, particularly in terms of gender expression. However, she made the decision to break free from these self-imposed constraints, embracing a more authentic version of herself.
Following her announcement, Jinkx received an outpouring of support from fans and fellow industry professionals alike. Messages of love and encouragement flooded her social media accounts, with many expressing admiration for her courage and authenticity.
Looking ahead, Jinkx Monsoon is set to take on new roles in the entertainment world. She will star as Audrey in the Off-Broadway production of A Little Shop of Horrors starting on April 2nd. Additionally, she will reprise her role as Matron “Mama” Morton in the Broadway production of Chicago in June, building on her successful stint in the show last year. Furthermore, Jinkx will join Ncuti Gatwa in the upcoming season of Doctor Who, set to premiere in May.
As she embarks on this next chapter of her career and personal journey, Jinkx Monsoon continues to inspire audiences with her talent, authenticity, and unwavering commitment to self-expression. Her story serves as a testament to the power of embracing one’s true identity and living authentically in a world that celebrates diversity and inclusivity.
