It was a star-studded evening at the annual L.A. LGBT Center celebration event, where fashion legend Donatella Versace found herself in a slightly sticky situation. The Italian designer, who was co-hosting the event with Dwayne Wade, made quite the entrance as she became trapped in an elevator upon arrival at the venue. Along with her assistant, publicist, security, and the head of Versace PR, Donatella found herself stuck in the elevator for a nerve-wracking 10-15 minutes before finally being freed.
Leaked footage of the rescue showed at least four people working together to pry open the elevator doors and allow Donatella and her team to escape. “Ladies first… oh my god!” she exclaimed as she carefully maneuvered her way out of the elevator. Despite the unexpected setback, Donatella took the incident in stride and even turned it into a humorous anecdote during her acceptance speech as she was named the LA LGBT Center’s first global ambassador. To show her support for the LGBTQ+ community, she generously donated $50,000 to the center.
Tinder CEO Faye Iosotaluno also made a significant contribution of $50,000 to the center, highlighting the importance of supporting vital services for the LGBTQ+ community in Los Angeles and beyond. As Dwayne Wade introduced Donatella at the rooftop event, she joked about her elevator mishap, saying, “I feel so honored to be here tonight. It’s so emotional for me, but also because I was stuck in the elevator. I thought I was never going to make it to this roof, but I did!”
The event was a gathering of influential figures and allies in the LGBTQ+ community, with Dwayne Wade acting as a co-host alongside Donatella. His daughter Zaya, who is transgender, also attended the event and was seen chatting with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. The star-studded guest list included Kathy Griffin, Billy Eichner, Raven-Symoné, RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Symone and Valentina, and Queer Eye star Karamo Brown.
Dwayne Wade took the opportunity to express his unwavering support for his daughter and the LGBTQ+ community. “We stand with our daughter,” he declared to the crowd, emphasizing the importance of acceptance and love. “We speak loud. We speak proud. And we lead with love… Everybody here today, I think we all have something in common and that one thing we have in common is we all want to be accepted. We all want acceptance.”
The evening was a celebration of unity, acceptance, and support for the LGBTQ+ community, with Donatella Versace’s elevator mishap adding a touch of humor to an otherwise heartfelt event. As guests mingled and shared their stories, it was clear that their voices would continue to be heard loud and proud in the fight for equality and inclusivity.
