Zayn Malik, former member of One Direction, has recently opened up about his time in the band, expressing regret over his “teen angst” attitude during those years. The British singer, who left the group in 2015, admitted that he didn’t fully grasp the importance of simply trying to be happy at the time.
In a candid interview on the Zach Sang Show to promote his upcoming album, “Room Under The Stairs,” Malik reflected on his past experiences with the band. He confessed, “The main thing that I always feel bad about when I look back over my life is not enjoying the band enough. I feel like I just took things too seriously, you know? I’m grateful that I’m able to be happier now. I can actually enjoy things and own my own perspective a bit, you know? Like, glass half full versus it being half empty. That’s my choice.”
The 17-year-old Malik, along with his bandmates Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson, rose to fame quickly after their formation on the X-Factor. However, Malik now admits that he struggled with a “teen angst thing” and had a chip on his shoulder during his time in the group. He acknowledged that he used to believe it was cool to be moody all the time but now realizes that it only made him come across as a negative energy.
The singer emphasized the importance of being a nice person and bringing positivity into people’s lives. He stated, “You should be somebody that people want to be around and enjoy being in your presence, and you should bring light to people’s day instead of being this negative cloud of energy.”
Malik also spoke about his daughter Khai, whom he shares with ex-partner Gigi Hadid, and how she has brought a new perspective into his life. He expressed, “She just makes me happier — I have so much love in me that I didn’t have before she was born. She laughs all day. She wants to do the silliest things, and she gains so much excitement from it, you know?”
The singer’s introspective comments have resonated with fans who have followed his journey since leaving One Direction. Many have praised him for his honesty and growth as an individual.
As Malik prepares to release his new album, fans are eager to see how his personal experiences and reflections will influence his music. “Room Under The Stairs” is set to showcase a more mature and introspective side of the artist, reflecting his journey towards self-acceptance and happiness.
Overall, Zayn Malik’s journey from teenage fame to self-awareness serves as a reminder of the importance of embracing positivity and finding joy in life’s simple moments. His story is a testament to the power of personal growth and self-reflection in overcoming challenges and finding true happiness.
