Netflix’s hit series, “Wednesday,” has announced some exciting new additions to the cast for its highly anticipated second season. Fans of the show will be thrilled to learn that Billie Piper and Joanna Lumley have been cast in key roles for the upcoming season, which has already begun filming.
The first season of “Wednesday,” a spinoff of Tim Burton’s iconic “Addams Family” franchise, was a massive success when it premiered in November 2022. The show stars Jenna Ortega in the titular role, and the announcement of new cast members has generated a lot of buzz among fans.
In a recent cast reveal on YouTube, Jenna Ortega shared a sneak peek at the script for season two, which is titled “Chapter One: ‘Here We Woe Again’.” The script was written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, with Burton returning to direct the new season.
Joining the cast as a new series regular is none other than “Doctor Who” star Billie Piper, who will be playing the character Capri. Piper will be joining returning stars Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, Moosa Mostafa, and Georgie Farmer. According to Deadline, the new season will also see the addition of Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor, as well as guest stars Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, and Joonas Suotamo.
Meanwhile, Joanna Lumley, best known for her role in “Absolutely Fabulous,” will be joining the cast in a guest role as Grandmama. Lumley will be joined by fellow guest stars Christopher Lloyd, who played Uncle Fester in the “Addams Family” movies, Fred Armisen who is returning as Uncle Fester, and others.
The production for the second season of “Wednesday” has already begun in Ireland and is expected to premiere in 2025. Jenna Ortega recently gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at the filming process in an Instagram post where she showcased her character’s signature look with black plaits and dark clothing.
While fans have been speculating about a potential sapphic romance for Jenna Ortega’s character in the second season, the actress has put those rumors to rest. In a recent interview, Ortega addressed the speculation and clarified that there will not be a romantic storyline involving her character in the upcoming season.
With an all-star cast and a promising storyline, fans of “Wednesday” have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming second season. Stay tuned for more updates as production continues and the premiere date draws closer.
