Jeremy O. Harris, the acclaimed writer behind the controversial stage show “Slave Play,” is reportedly in the process of developing another provocative play that envisions a fictional version of Prince George “coming out of the closet” in the future. The play, rumored to be titled “Prince F****t,” is penned by Canadian author Jordan Tannahill, as reported by Page Six.
The storyline of “Prince F****t” is said to be set in a not-so-distant future where Prince George has just publicly disclosed his sexual orientation. This fictional portrayal of a real-life member of the British royal family is expected to spark controversy due to the sensitive nature of the topic. Prince George, who is turning 11 in July, holds the position of being second in line to the British throne as the eldest son of Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.
In a similar vein, the animated series “The Prince” depicted a satirical version of Prince George as a snarky and self-absorbed eight-year-old who causes chaos within the Royal Family. The show, which featured the voices of notable actors like Gary Janetti, Alan Cumming, Orlando Bloom, and Frances de la Tour, faced cancellation after its premiere.
Gary Janetti, who voiced the character of Prince George in “The Prince,” had previously faced backlash in 2018 for insinuating in a now-deleted Instagram post that the young royal had a boyfriend at the age of four. Similarly, in 2017, a photo of Prince George joyfully covering his face led to some social media users dubbing him as a “gay icon.”
Jeremy O. Harris, known for his bold and contentious work, has reportedly established a production company that will bring “Prince F****t” to fruition. Harris’s portfolio includes co-producing Sam Levison’s edgy drama “Euphoria,” showcasing his propensity for pushing boundaries and sparking discussions through his art.
“Slave Play,” Harris’s 2018 play that delves into themes of power dynamics, race, sex, and interracial relationships on a southern American plantation, is slated to debut at London’s Noël Coward Theatre in June. The production will introduce “Black Out” nights, designated exclusively for an audience identifying as Black.
Despite receiving criticism for the initiative, Harris defended the “Black Out” nights as a way to prioritize Black individuals while still welcoming white audience members. This move sparked controversy with a spokesperson for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak denouncing the approach as divisive.
In 2020, “Slave Play” garnered an impressive 12 Tony Award nominations, setting a record for the most nominations received by a single play. While it did not secure any wins, the recognition solidified Harris’s status as a groundbreaking and thought-provoking playwright in the industry.
As Jeremy O. Harris continues to push boundaries with his upcoming project “Prince F****t,” audiences can anticipate another thought-provoking and potentially contentious exploration of societal norms and identity through the lens of a fictionalized future scenario involving Prince George.
